Topic: NCDOT/STIP Update and Installation of ASHE Officers and Presentation of Scholarships
Speaker: Chris Peoples, NCDOT Chief Engineer
Abstract: Chris Peoples will give a brief update on things happening at NCDOT and the STIP. Our section will also install officers for the 2023-2024 ASHE Year and present scholarships to the candidates selected by our scholarship committee.

As chief engineer, Chris Peoples oversees and directs the engineering and program activities of the N.C. Department of Transportation’s 14 highway divisions, Transportation Mobility and Safety Division, the Central Units, and the Technical Services Division.​

He has been with NCDOT for more than 27 years and has served in several field engineering positions, including State Materials Engineer and Director of Field Support. He became Deputy Chief Engineer in 2019, responsible for directing Field Support and Highway Operations Units and supporting the 14 Divisions construction, maintenance and operations activities. He was appointed Chief Engineer in May 2022.

During this period, Chris has served in several leadership roles on various transportation related committees.  He currently serves on AASHTO’s Council on Highways and Streets and is serving as chairman of AASHTO’s National Transportation Product Evaluation Program.

Peoples is a 1993 graduate of North Carolina State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering.

He lives with his wife, Robin, and their two children in Raleigh.
